Well, my semester has started and I’m fighting the urge to let myself be overwhelmed – notice how I said being overwhelmed is something I allow myself to do… But that’s old news. Anywho, when I get busy one of the first things that fall by the wayside once I get consumed by school and work are my hobbies. I fall into a cycle of doing what I have to do and then using my free time to sleep or do things that require as little effort as possible (Hulu only requires that I pick what I want to watch, easy peasy.) Writing is both a chore and a love. As a chore, writing is unavoidable. I write papers for school, I write articles and copy for various publications that I’m the editor of, I write emails, I write cover letters/applications, and there are probably some other types of writing that I’m forgetting about at the moment. As a hobby, writing often gets neglected because by the time I’m done doing all of the chore-writing, I don’t want to look at words!
Seeing that I can’t change the fact that I have to write day-in and day-out, I figure that maybe it’s time to change the way I think about these necessary writing tasks. Every task, despite the content, provides an opportunity to improve in some way and adds variety to what I can do as a writer. I found an article 5 Ways to Write a Damn Good Sentence over on copyblogger.com, a blog I just found/followed that provides some tips on how to write better in any capacity, sentence by sentence.
See, everything you write … every blog post, every landing page, every email, short story, or Google+ post … begins and ends with a sentence. Bone up on your sentence-writing skills and those pieces of content will only get better and be more widely shared.
